| Comments: | I live on the Swinomish reservation and live the day to day life as a tribal member. I belive that it takes an understsnding of both sides of a situation, such as the tobbaco tax, to come to a conclusion. But facts are facts, and that's all that counts in this situation. Fair is fair, I have paid a fish tax ever since I started fishing. This tax needs to be paid, so we as a tribe can move on to better our people and again break the cycle of poverity. |

| Comments: | Things like this are helping tribal members break the cycle of poverty. I can remember someone telling me that it is better to die standing-up then to live life on your knees. |

| Comments: | I looked through this site at work and must say it has a lot of information that is presented in a logical sequence. I probably would not be able to open this site from my computer at home because of the photo and heavy graphics on the home page and would recommend they be divided up with a directory. Graphics are pretty, but not useful. I will try to log on at home and if unsuccessful I won't be back. Mary |

| Comments: | We would just like to thank you for creating the tribute for Jimi with his candidacy tri-fold. At some point in the future, we would like to submit information for the site concerning the other avenues of his life (i.e. his carving, canoe skipper, fisherman, etc.) Do I just email that to the webmaster? He gave his all for the people in every thing he did. Again, thank you for thinking to honor him; the loss of his voice is a loss shared by all. We would also like to thank all of those that have chosen to carry on with the work to make the future brighter for "the Children of Swinomish yet to come". Many Prayers and Blessings! | Comments: | "At some point we may choose to reveal who we are, but not till we are good and ready." " revealing our identity now would be foolish..." The Webster's dictionary defines FOOL - ish as "weak in intellect; ill-considered; stupid. This definition most closely resembles your last answer to my submission in your guest book. The only thing I have chosen to defend is the memory of my beloved one that has moved on. Not once have I spoken of anyone else or voiced any personal views on Swinomish politics. Yet you seem to be stuck in the fantasy that I am trying to argue these "facts" you've put in this website. I merely tried honor the memory of a deceased Swinomish elder of which I loved very much. And you could have maybe chosen to simply say "thank you for your views, but it is obvious that we disagree with you..." or something to this sort. Then I would not have felt like I needed to voice my opinion louder. You sound like someone fresh out of law school stretching your wings. (Obviously though there were no classes in diplomacy, or respect.) You're wasting your time arguing with me about politics. I'm not interested in placing my opinions on any of the other things you've brought up. Save it for someone who is. This will be the last entry I will submit, because I don't want to confuse you any longer. I'll understand though if you feel the need to retaliate with another entry, after all it was you that said "she was a remarkable and powerful woman ..." perhaps she retains that power over you still. Therefore you will probably feel the need to retaliate. But then again, all and all, both are entitled to our opinions are we not? It's been interesting. I've said what I needed to say except that you should really work on this siite the red on black is really hard to read. Sorry for the need to spead out what I've said......(Ed. Note: freeSwinomish staff condenced several submissions into this single entry.) |

| Comments: | Barb, The American Heritage Dictionary defines slander as "A false and malicious statement or report that damages the reputation or well-being of another." This definition most closely resembles your latest submission to our guestbook. The verifiable facts presented on the web page eliciting your initial response clearly do not. Yes, you know us personally, and we know you. Having married into the Wilbur family as you have it is no surprise to us that you choose to defend the indefensible i.e. the Wilbur family political reputation, not with facts but with baseless counter-accusations. At some point we may decide to reveal who we are, but not till we are good and ready. Joan and Marvin Wilbur retain both their political power, and a stable of attorneys with whom they might choose to initiate a frivolous lawsuit, either of which they could try to use to prevent the dissemination of facts presented on our website, revealing our identity now would be foolish. Please take the time to read Ward Churchill's Essay on Tribal Self Governance presented on our site, if you do not see the Wilbur regime clearly defined then perhaps it is you who has no conscience. |

| Comments: | All this hiding behind a web page devoted to slandering, hmm... I wonder just who these free Swinomish are? You know my name, and also, very well who I am.... And you answer me with yet more slandering words, and still remain incognito. Is there a reason you weren't more personal with a response to me? You've printed some pretty explisite personal views. The fact that you've lost no sleep over this is irrelatvant to me really... it's merely a figure of speech. One relating to having a conscience |

| Comments: | In response to your comments Barb, while we respect the loss to you of a loved one we strongly disagree that the page to which you refer was some sort of "cowardly" attack on the memory of your loved one, i.e. Laura Wilbur. The page would appear the same as it does today regardless of whether Laura was still alive. We too wish that she were still alive, though for very different reasons. While Laura Wilbur was a truly remarkable lady in many respects, we believe quite strongly that your characterization of Laura as a person who "often took care of whole families...asking nothing in return" to be little more than wishful thinking. Laura Wilbur was a remarkable and powerful woman, but her legacy to her people was not all sweetness and light. The money from her pocket you refer to was not always her own, and she demanded political loyalty as a return. This site is very much so dedicated to bringing the Wilbur family era to a close in terms of tribal politics. We are sleeping very well thank you since we began this project. |

| Comments: | Interesting use of free speech.... however I find dragging someone that is at peace with a higher power back to our world, and degrading that persons image, (with no consideration of the great good and caring that person had for each and everyone.... in this "free swinomish" community. Often taking care of whole families out of her own pocket. For nothing in return.) Extremly, terribly low, and cowardly. And I cannot understand how you can sleep at night knowing that person is not around anymore |
